a rustic approach if you will (and I think you will)

Oh hey, happy Sunday!  We've done nothing today but eat a fat kid breakfast--from BK--nap the entire day away, and then finish up with a semi-fat kid dinner at Cinco de DRINKO.  No drinks for this girl today after last nights consumption though.  So I guess I thought that I would at least get a post or two done, and then, you know, go to sleep.  I freaking love Sundays!

So, about this rustic yarn wreath you see here on the right... I made this custom for my bestie Shena's mom (who loves log cabin-y things and such) for Mother's Day actually, but I handed it over yesterday... Listen, different states, different cities, it happens!

Shena gave me the color pallet to work with (forest green and mauve) as well as a request for a black bear muppet.  Here's what I got right--the forest green. Apparently my dumb ass thought cranberry was the same as mauve....HELLO! So when I sent Shena a photo of the first version I finally figured out that, oh hey, it's not Christmas, now is it?!?  NO!
Did someone order a Christmas Wreath?
Oh, they didn't?  SHIT.

Oh, and the black bear request?  Forget about it!  I had the hardest time finding anything that was B.Chen-doable that wasn't a TEDDYBEAR.  So, taking pity on me, Shena suggested a tree or a pinecone, or something that I could actually handle.

Ah, failure......

While I was searching for a pinecone pattern I managed to download a VIRUS that my husband had to lovingly remove for me--that only took a half hour or so.  Man!  After all that I just winged the pinecone myself and actually I'm really happy with the outcome of it.  It's no black bear, but it's pretty cool!

This was by and far the hardest YW I've ever done!  Seriously.    I think that when you're making something custom for a good friend makes it even trickier--I mean, this was a present for her amazing mother and the last thing I wanted to was eff it up!

Here are some photos of the final version:

Oh hey mister pinecone! only one virus and a hot glue blister

So there you have it, ANOTHER yarn wreath notch on my belt.  :)  Yay!

Big (rustic) Smile,
B.Chen

Your wreath looks amazing! Rustic is the IN theme for Christmas this year. So now is the time to start planning and collecting bits and pieces to put your theme together. It's fun to make and guests love it! Cheers, Liz.
